Good Things

When I sit on my upstairs balcony the birds sometimes cut right through it swooping past my face on their way to the feeder at the kitchen window.

The other day as I sat there, the hummingbird that frequents the hibiscus out back hovered directly in front of  my face, not 3 feet away, and chirped at me three times. Something I have never experienced before and it was awesome.

The deep gold fall wildflowers are blooming at the end of my yard and they are gorgeous.

The baby squirrels Biggest raised are grown and were released in my backyard with an open cage for safety and they are doing fine. They are adjusting well to the wild world but still will occasionally pop down onto a shoulder for a special treat.

Littlest can still be heard in the kitchen singing and the other night I heard something I haven't heard since I left my parents home and brothers behind. A male voice joining in with her to add to it's fullness. Her boyfriend of two years was singing with her. It was lovely.

Since she's been home Middlest has begun a series of drawings depicting her soon to come niece, and the menagerie she is being born into, with the thought of a possible children's book and they are wonderful, even if they only become a personal treasure.

Biggest was over and for the first time I felt my granddaughter kicking up a storm. Just like her mama, no doubt ; )

Today is the first day chilly enough to wear a sweater, even though I'm not going out.

I'm supposed to go to the mountains in a week which is the place that restores me.

It is still October.

And I have a pumpkin.

and then

Middlest called me in the middle of the night crying her eyes out because this guy is a drunken SOB. So we grabbed our guns ( no we didn't need them, it was for our own protection) and drove to Georgia to save our daughter from the violent drunk.

And she's home. And she's having some problems and may be in danger of a miscarriage. But she's safe. And she's home. And we all have to watch our backs but hopefully it will all be alright and she can begin to heal and start over...again.

I'm Ok. But I Have Plans

I'm Ok I guess.

Biggest went to the doctor the other day and was told the baby is two weeks bigger than average. I don't know if that means she's just going to be big or if she's coming earlier but she better just be big because I Have Plans.

I don't know if Middlest is getting married or not. First it was November 1 then Oct 14 then she doesn't know. Which kind of sucks because if it was November I was going to work it into the fact that I Have Plans. She did however send me a picture on my phone of a Bean in a well and everything seems to be alright so far. Middlest has ovarian issues already, so I hope for her sake she doesn't have any problems and the bean grows into a nice fat stalk like Biggests'. I miss her like crazy but it is what it is.

The Marine Corps needs to get it's act together and let Littlest know when the hell she's leaving before she has a nervous breakdown and it better be this month or after mid November because otherwise I will have a nervous breakdown because I Have Plans.

Which brings me to the government which needs to quit this BS and get on with it because I Have Plans involving a National Park and if I don't get on that mountain I'll end up on the news for busting barricades myself. Crazed woman crashes through road blocks to reach mountains so that she won't jump off of one.

And I just turned 48, so I Really Need Those Plans!

Otherwise, I Really Love October.

And now I'm going to go watch Gilligans Island because that is precisely all my brain can handle.
Which is why I Have Plans.

Grieving Process: ANGER

She left without saying goodbye. She left without any warning. They only reason I knew she was gone was because she told ONE friend. I guess she had to tell someone. And the friend sounded an alarm. I had not seen her in a week already before she left and then it was only for an hour. She deprived me of a last day with all three of my daughters together. She stole a memory I needed to have in my life. She stole the photo to look at after her sister leaves. She stole the last get together as a family. There will be no more birthday parties or holidays as a family for God knows how long. She deprived me and herself of a wedding we've talked about for years. She deprived us of being excited and happy at the wonderful news of her first child and left fear of the future in it's place. She is pregnant, jobless, homeless, temporarily sleeping on the couch of the stepmother of a guy who will have trouble getting a job because of his record. They can't come back because he has absconded on bond from an arrest here.
She deprived me of the love of my daughter. The one who was closest to me.

It's been raining every day
since you went away
But it won't wash away the pain.
After all, it's only rain.

I've been crying every day
since you went away
But that doesn't change a thing.
I don't want the phone to ring

I've been praying everyday
since you went away.
But it doesn't ease my mind.
Peace I just can't find.

I've been hoping every day
that this will go away
But it's a useless game.
Things will never be the same.

Alright. I'm done whining. Maybe.  But I can't live in the dark forever. I have to find a way to hope. I'm struggling with that. And that's not something I usually struggle with. My faith has never been challenged. It isn't now. But I know faith doesn't mean easy and I'm already Worn.

GONE

Over the state line. With a guy with a ten year history of alcohol related charges including battery.
And she's pregnant.

Dear God. Life really CAN get worse.

Something Lovely

Since THE BIG UGLY is all over my other blog.

I know this is a love song but it always makes me think of the people I've lost. My Mom and Dad and Brother. I'll see them again some day.
For the time being it's back to my heat pack for my back.

Enjoy....Ms. A, you're probably the only one that will show up : )

For Real, Dude?

I just got back from my nieces wedding. She's a  remarkable young woman. A school teacher. She and the groom have been together 13 years because she had all her goals planned out and that is how long it took to get where she wanted to be. She is stunningly beautiful and a tiny elf like girl. I've never seen her look more amazing than she did today.

The wedding was set on a grassy area above the sea wall with a gorgeous view of the dunes and sea oats and the ocean spreading beyond. It was absolutely lovely. We faced the ocean and the groomsmen came out. Her Dad was my brother John, no longer with us, so she was escorted by her brothers, flanking each side of her. The three of them were still all inside the building. She had several maids and as they began to come out, one at a time, I noticed a giant red blimp approaching. I thought to myself, really? "Why does this thing have to come along right now and spoil the view, at least she's still inside and coming from the side so they can't see from the door." But my sister in law was there with her new husband. And my brothers best friend from the time they were teenagers was there. Shortly, it was directly in front of us.
A Budweiser Blimp! Are you kidding me? Is this a practical joke?
But then below the logo I saw the message,
"Choose a Designated Driver."
Some laughed, some moaned, I cried. It continued on passing out of the way and beyond reading view just as the three of them left the door. So they didn't see it.

Way to go John. Way to remind everyone that life is so precious and so much can be missed and time it so that the children weren't hurt. Way to remind us of your incredibly dry and absurd sense of humor. Glad you were there. Missed you more than I can say.

But really, Dude, REALLY?

And There It Is

Where does it come from? On just any day. A sunny day with the thunder a promise just the other side of the river. A day when a great deal is to be done, tomorrow. It's quiet. The phone rang already. One. Two. Three. Four times. Answered, listened. I understand. I do. It's not that. What is it? Midway through a week. Nothing is wrong. Not here. Is there? Not today. Not yet. But it stands there balanced on the edge of reason. Swaying on a fine pointed tip. So where does it come from? On an any day.

Recipe's For Locusts

Cause it seems to me we should be prepared.

Tinjiya (Tswana recipe): remove the wings and hind legs of the locusts, and boil in a little water until soft. Add salt, if desired, and a little fat and fry until brown. Serve with cooked, dried mealies (corn).

Sikonyane (Swazi recipe): prepare embers and roast the whole locust on the embers. Remove head, wings, and legs, in other words, only the breast part is eaten. The South Sotho people use locusts especially as food for travellers. The heads and last joint of the hindlegs are broken off and the rest laid on the coals to roast. The roasted locusts are ground on a grinding stone to a fine powder. This powder can be kept for long periods of time and is taken along on a journey. Dried locusts are also prepared for the winter months. The legs, when dried, are especially relished for their pleasant taste.

Cambodia: take several dozen locust adults, preferably females, slit the abdomen lengthwise and stuff a peanut inside. Then lightly grill the locusts in a wok or hot frying pan, adding a little oil and salt to taste. Be careful not to overcook or burn them.

Barbecue (grilled): prepare the embers or charcoal. Place about one dozen locusts on a skewer, stabbing each through the centre of the abdomen. If you only want to eat the abdomen, then you may want to take off the legs or wings either before or after cooking. Several skewers of locusts may be required for each person. Place the skewers above the hot embers and grill while turning continuously to avoid burning the locusts until they become golden brown.

Philippines: Locusts have been accepted in San Fernando,Pampanga as a palatable special dish, cooked "adobo" style. Adobo is a popularly common dish found in the Philippines, thus a national dish among the Filipinos. Typically made from pork or chicken or a combination of both, it is slowly cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, crushed garlic, bay leaf, and black peppercorns, and often browned in the oven or pan-fried afterwards to get the desirable crisped edges. This dish originates from the northern region of the Philippines. Commonly packed for Filipino mountaineers and travelers, the relatively long shelf-life of this food is well known due to one of its primary ingredient's, particularly vinegar, that inhibits the growth of bacteria. Tip: substitute locusts for the chicken or pork

Uganda: Clean the locusts by removing the legs and wings, then fry them with some chopped onion and season with curry powder.

Mexico: (1) Roast 40 locusts for 10 minutes at 180°, then remove the wings, legs and heads and toss with the juice of 1 lemon, 2 cloves of garlic and salt to taste. (2) Mash 2 avocados and spread on 6 tortillas. (3) Sprinkle with locust torsos and enjoy. Serves six. Lets Just Keep It Up Shall We

In winter months I'm known to sing
I wax poetic in the spring
As summer bears down on me
Along with sand and foaming sea
Dread descends at all the heat
And the suns unceasing beat
Upon my eyes my skin my life
Though I am a surfers wife
Every day I long for rain
But they say creativity is sparked by pain
So as a form of self expression
I poetize my heat depression
And learn things that I never heard
Like poetize is a real word
I work my way through this bad time
By turning life into a rhyme
And that is how I get past
The summer days until the last
When I smile and dance down the hall
Thank God Almighty it's finally fall.

I Thank You. And my children thank you for being there to listen to this instead of them.

Is It Armageddon Yet?

It certainly appears so.

I've been working out of town since Monday and I'll I've seen on the TV at the end of the day is horrible news.

My heart goes out to Boston, my fathers home town.
And also to Texas, home to so many lovely bloggers I'm acquainted with.
I don't really feel sorry for politicians as no one was hurt but it all just drives home,

People Suck.

Some people anyway. Some are crazy evil and all I can do is cling to the good I know is out there.
I know it is. These things tend to bring it out and that is the only light but a strong light that breaks through times of darkness.

This has been the longest day and it started with a minor car accident and kept up from there. The news does put it in perspective but I have been fighting tears all day and could really use a good cry. I am ready to curl up in my own bed and make the world go away with a book and that is what I'll probably do. Not sure if it'll work this time around. I need my cat. I need my bed. I am beyond chocolate but that's ok. I'm having some anyway.
